Far Hills
Just five square miles, Far Hills is a small borough bordered by Bedminster Township, Peapack-Gladstone, Bernards Township, and Bernardsville. The borough has its own train station, which happens to be listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and is part of the Gladstone branch of the Morristown New Jersey Transit Line. It services New York’s Penn Station or Hoboken terminal. There is a quaint shopping area adjacent to the train station, offering residents a variety of shops and services.
Far Hills students share schools in the highly rated Somerset Hills Regional School District with neighboring Bernardsville and Peapack-Gladstone students. Far Hills Country Day School is a private, nonsectarian coeducational day school located in Far Hills, serving students in nursery school through eighth grade on a 55-acre campus.
The homes in Far Hills range from ornate Victorians with welcoming front porches and well tended gardens, to grandiose country estates, antique farm houses, traditional center hall colonials, modest mid-century homes, and newly constructed luxury homes.
There is so much to explore in beautiful Far Hills. offers a wealth of outdoor recreation. The Leonard J. Buck Garden is a stunning 33-acre public botanical garden operated by the Somerset County Park Commission. Natirar (“Raritan” spelled backwards), is a 491-acre estate spanning the borders of Far Hills, Peapack-Gladstone, and Bedminster once owned by His Majesty, Hassan II, the late King of Morocco. Upon his death, the property was transferred to a private nonprofit, Natirar Association. The mansion, two cottages, carriage house, and greenhouse on 88 acres of the property are leased by the county to Sir Richard Branson, famous owner of Virgin Airlines. The main house is now The Club, which houses a full service spa, fine dining, and conference center. Ninety Acres Culinary Center offers a wine and cooking school. The remaining 403 acres of Natirar are to remain as open space for area residents. Perhaps Far Hills‘ greatest claim to fame is the Far Hill Race Meeting at Moorland Farms, one of the most prestigious steeplechase horse races in the country, attracting over 50,000 spectators every October. Finally, the United States Golf Association is headquartered in Far Hills as well. It houses the world’s most extensive collection of golf memorabilia in literature, promoting a greater understanding of the games, cultural significance.
