Harding Township
Named after President Warren G. Harding, Harding Township is situated 32 miles from New York City. It comprises two sections: New Vernon and Green Village, located in southeastern Morris County. Driving along the country roads of Harding, you’ll see large country estates featuring exquisite homes, rolling hills with a patchwork of forests and open fields with grazing horses, sheep, and wildlife. In 2006, Forbes magazine recognized New Vernon as one of the top 25 most expensive zip codes in the United States.
The quaint shopping area known as The Country Mile features various retaill options and businesses housed in charming antique buildings. For more shopping options, neighboring towns like Morristown, Madison, Chatham, and Summit are easily accessible.
Harding is surrounded by The Great Swamp and Jockey Hollow, a 1,200-acre National Park offering around 27 miles of scenic walking trails, rich with history. The area boasts numerous protected spaces, allowing it to maintain its rural ambiance.
A highlight of the area is the Volunteer Fire Department’s Country Auction,,a beloved event held in early fall where visitors can discover a wide array of items including antiques, crafts, and even cars.
In terms of education, the Harding Township School caters to students from kindergarten through eighth grade. High school students attend Madison High School in Madison. Alternatively, there are private school options such as Morristown’s Villa Walsh Academy, Delbarton School, Morristown-Beard School, and several other nearby private institutions. While many families appreciate the small class sizes in the public school system, approximately half of local families opt for private education for their children.
